Matthieu Foss Gallery: What wears me

(born. 1959) was born in Calcutta, since the late eighties he has worked as a freelance photographer - juggling a career between commercial work, and self-commissioned artistic projects. He has traveled extensively in India, Europe and North America, conducted many workshops and seminars, and has had his work published in Indian, English, French, Italian and American magazines. He has collected numerous international awards and grants, including Photographer of the Year, four years in a row, an award instituted by the Creative Artists' Guild in Bombay; the Mercury Gold award, New York; the Pinnacle award, New York; the Yves Saint Laurent grant for fashion photography, Paris; and the Canon grant for the leading 10 Indian photographers. He is also currently, one of the Epson 'Masters' in the worldwide Epson Pro programme.

Prabuddha's work has been exhibited worldwide, both in group and one-man shows and published in two books, viz. 'Women' in 1996 (a collection of nudes and portraits, the first and only one of its kind to be published in India) and 'Ladakh' in 2000 (a personal, visual exploration of India's frontier wilderness). He has contributed to many other books and publications and curated 'If I Were Rain' in 2004, a book project about urban street children in India. In the same year he was one among ten photographers worldwide to be invited to publish with Motta Editore, Milan, a collection of nudes titled 'Nudi'.

Prabuddha Das Gupta is represented in Europe by the Ken Damy Museum of Contemporary Photography, Brescia, Italy, and he currently lives between Bangalore, Delhi and Goa.
